Early Times Report
Jammu, July 30: A do-or-die intense battle is going in Jammu University (JU) with various stakeholders especially those with political connections and also claiming RSS affiliation making knee deep efforts to sabotage the recruitment process for 25 posts which began in the month of June this year.
This battle has unnerved the officials involved in the process of recruitment and they are desisting from taking it forward. Scrutiny of forms is yet to be done and those who are supposed to hold the interviews are fearful of the repercussions. Stakeholders have pointed their guns at the University administration and those who until the other day wanted these leaders to be thrown out of JU are now throwing parties to keep their morale high and ensure they stop the entire recruitment process.
This recruitment process began with Jammu University issuing advertisement no. Adm/C&R/14/1111-1160 dated 06-06-2014 for 25 vacancies. Allegation of the stakeholders is that the posts have been advertised keeping in mind certain blue-eyed officials of Jammu University. They maintain that the recruitment process is aimed at paving way for contractual, some permanent and other well-connected employees of the University.
Allegation is that these individuals include children of certain top officials of the University. Whether there is some truth in these allegations or not can be gauged from the fact that those who are reportedly either writing to various quarters or those who are claiming to have approached Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry or the office of Prime Minister have themselves managed entry into university through backdoor channels of various political outfits, said the sources.
They maintain that those who are leading the charge as student or scholar activists have their own vested interests which is why they are approaching HRD Ministry and PMO office when the fact remains that it is a UGC funded but state run university whose Chancellor is Governor N.N. Vohra and Pro-Chancellor Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. An official with CM's office said that neither PMO nor the HRD Ministry have the powers to influence decisions taken by the University.
Sources assert that those who have written to the PMO or the HRD Ministry are actually the ones who were appointed in the University through operation of backdoor channels of Congress and National Conference (NC). They maintain that these employees made it to the University administrative set-up through their family relationship with senior Congress leaders.
By writing to BJP-led PMO and HRD Ministry, sources maintained that they are actually trying to exploit the faultlines that exist between BJP and the two coalition partners in Jammu and Kashmir. Sources further said that these university employees and scholars who have mostly Congress background alongwith few communist leaders are trying to play communal card by pleading before the BJP-led PMO and HRD Ministry that they are being victimised by Congress-NC coalition Government.
Their sole intent, according to university insiders is to ensure that those who are their close friends and acquaintances are adjusted against these posts without taking into account whether they fulfil the eligibility criteria or not. These insiders further say that a few of these leaders have been for long seeking adjustment in the university as Assistant Professors. Since their wish is not being fulfilled, sources said that they are hell bent on forcing the university to put the entire process on hold.
A close friend of one of those who have been writing anonymous letters and tarnishing character of various university employees said that the intent is to put the process on hold, force the university administration to make certain concessions to those leading the charge and more importantly, get an assurance from the University administration of suitable adjustment in the university in the near future.
Sources disclosed that two relatives of a senior Congress leader are in the forefront of their entire exercise of sabotaging the recruitment process. They said that a number of applications have been received and only those would be called for interview who would be fulfilling the eligibility criteria. "Where comes the question of adjusting blue-eyed? There would be open competition and those who would succeed would be recruited. One individual cannot influence decision of a committee," said an official.
