Jagdev Singh elected president broiler farmers Union | | | Early Times Report
Kathua, July 30: About 200 broiler farmers of Kathua District elected Jagdev Singh as the President of their newly formed Union in a meeting held in Shivalik Resort Dayala Chakk. All the farmers expressed their grave concern and dissatisfaction over the decision of J&K administration to suspend the contract farming operation in Jammu. Jagdev Singh explained that in contract farming farmers are getting good returns without investment with absolutely no risk what so ever due to price fluctuations of ready bird. Most of the farmers felt that even after working for 15 to 20 years with local distributers they were not able to earn their livelihood and were forced to close their farms. The farmers feel Government has taken a decision without giving them any chance to explain the reality of contact farming. The so called association of the farmers that met with the officials of government, in fact is the union of feed dealers, medicine sellers and chick sellers who had been earning huge commissions and margin of profit at the cost of small farmers. |
