NC dreams of another term, announces packages
7/31/2014 11:05:13 PM

Shakeel A Khan

SRINAGAR, July 31: The coalition government lead by the National Conference shattered the dreams of the people of the state by not fulfilling its promises which it had made during the election rallies in 2008 and paid the heavy price for their wrong doings.
During the last five and half years, there has been no change on the developmental fronts in the state. The government couldn't even start some projects given its lack of interest towards the same. It has been the hallmark of this government that works of the weeks took years along to be completed and some of these works have not been completed as yet.
The people in the corridors of power are dreaming of another term of governance and that is why it is announcing the packages. Why the government is compelled to do this, is understandable to all as these measures are aimed at hiding its failures. But the dreams of these people may not be realized this time given their under performance over the years.
"The people in power turn soft whenever they see their ship is sinking. It is their habit to put their heads down as and when they find themselves in troubled waters. Otherwise they aren't really sincere towards the people," said Irfan Ahmad from Srinagar, whose opinion was sought by the Early Times.
Irfan was of the opinion that sixty six months aren't enough for the people at the helm of the affairs to go for the increase in the road infrastructure from Qamarwari to Parimpora, the distance between these places is hardly around three to four kilometers. How can these people talk about the upliftment of the state, asked Irfan?
It has been talked much that an express highway will be laid between Galander Pampore to Narbal, the survey for which was completed much before. But when the time to act came, the government machinery came to the grinding halt.
"We have been asked by the authorities not to go for the constructions along the demarcated area citing reasons that road connectivity will be established through this area. Even we were told that revenue department will soon pay you the compensation. But till date nothing of this kind has happened," said some people at Daharmunah, Budgam.
These people said that the people from the government told them that the project will be completed by the end of the year 2015.How is it possible to think of the completion of the project when even the work has not been initiated towards the end of the 2014, these people asked.
Fayaz Ahmad, a resident of the Zainakot said "People in power find it easy to lure the commoners by means of hollow slogans and false promises. But when these people are put to tests, they fail miserably."
