Militants snatch weapon from Cop in Srinagar | | | Mustansir
Srinagar, Aug 1: Unidentified militants today snatched a service rifle from a policeman at Qamarwari in Srinagar City. The policeman was posted with a Judge in Srinagar. The incident occurred at the residence of the judge in the city outskirts," the officer added. The incident comes a day after militants shot at a private security guard in the city from close range, injuring him critically. The shooting took place in Kaka Sarai area, barely two kilometers away from where the weapon was snatched Friday. "The tight vigil on Line of Control by the Indian Army has made militants desperate to snatch weapons from security forces," to police official was quoted as having said. Sources said a high-alert has been sounded in the city to patrolling troops, particularly Jammu and Kashmir police, asking them to be vigilant as militants might try to overpower and disarm them. Last year, militants had carried out hit and run five point-blank attacks in south Kashmir and snatched weapons from the policemen. According to sources, this year Lashker-e-Toiba has recruited around two dozen local youths from Kashmir valley. Around 200-250 active militants are present in Kashmir. |
