Despite lapse of one month police yet to register FIR in 'mysterious death' case
Post mortem report lying with FSL

SRINAGAR, Aug 1: Despite the claims by higher ups of police department that better relations have been developed with common masses a family of North Kashmir is running from pillar to post over the past one month so that a First Information Report (FIR) is lodged with respect to the mysterious death of their daughter.
Almost a month back; July 3 to be precise, Shahzada Begum wife of Mohammad Jamal Ganaie resident of Gadikhud, Sumbal in North Kashmir's Bandipora district died in mysterious circumstances at her home. While Shahzada's husband claimed that she committed suicide her mother and sisters contested the claim and said that she died due to severe beating from her husband.
"Our brother in law used to torture our sister like anything and he was coercing to dispose off her jewellery that she had received from our parents. Our sister resisted this torture for some time but not for a longer period of time. She died due to severe beating almost a month back and since then we are suffering," said the sisters of Shahzada.
Shahzada's sisters said the death due to torture became evident when they found marks of beating on her body while it was being washed after her death. They said that Jamal is cooking a story that Shahzada committed suicide by consuming some insecticide.
"Our sister was living under tremendous pressure and she used to face the wrath from her husband on regular basis. He wanted our sister to sell the jewellery so that he could make merry from the money. Our sister resisted this and she had to pay the ultimate price for it," said the sisters.
Since the death was suspicious one it ought to be probed by the police so that the truth comes to the fore. However, the 'inaction' from police in the case has virtually shattered Shahzada's mother and her sisters. Shahzada's father has already passed away and as she has no brother, her sisters and a brother in law are pursuing the case.
"We moved an application with the police post at Nowgam so that an FIR is lodged in the case. We were told to move the application with Sumbal police station and we did the same. Up to this moment of time the FIR has not been lodged neither at the police post nor police station," said the sisters of Shahzada.
In addition of moving the application in person the family members of Shahzada sent an application through post to Sumbal police station so that the FIR is registered. This too was not paid heed to by the police personnel and no FIR has been lodged as on date.
Moreover, the post mortem has already been carried out by the doctors and the report is pending with the Forensic Science Laboratory, Bemina.
Talking to Early Times, Chief Medical Officer, Bandipora, Dr. G M Dar said that they have already carried out the post mortem.
Dr. Dar said the final opinion has been kept reserved and the department is waiting for the FSL authorities to share their findings so that final report about the death is compiled.
