Four ultras gunned down in Keran sector | | | Syed Tahir Bukhari
KUPWARA, Aug 1: In a search operation four ultras were gunned down when a militant group tried to ex-filtrate to the Pakistan administered Kashmir (PaK) from valley at Sondigali forest near Line of Control (LOC) at Keran sector in north Kashmir's Kupwara district on Friday afternoon. According to official sources that, "acting on specific intelligence about the presence of a militant group at Sondi Gali near Line of Control (LOC) at Keran sector, the joint team of army's 15 RR and 7 Gadhwal today morning cordoned off the whole area. As such the joint team intensified the searches in the whole forest area, the remaining militants hiding in the area tried to break the cordon and opened heavy fire upon the forces, however they were engaged by the forces resulting in a fierce gun battle, sources said. A top police official told early times that, "two more militants have been killed on Friday afternoon in an encounter at Keran sector of north Kashmir's Kupwara district, taking death toll of militants to 4. Two militants were killed earlier on Thursday night after the militant group tried to ex-filtrate to the Pakistan-administered Kashmir (PaK) was intercepted at the Sondigali forest near Line of Control (LoC) official said. According to well placed Sources, "it is believed that there may be some more militants hiding in the forest, police and army has started a massive search operation to track down the militants who are roaming here and there to ex- filtrate to the other side of Line of Control from last one week. "The militant group after having completed their tenure in the valley was now trying to ex-filtrate to the Pakistan-administered Kashmir side following the directions of militant commanders based in PaK, sources said. However a senior army official confirmed that 4 militants have been killed in an encounter near LoC in Keran sector since last evening and whose identity has not been immediately known. Meanwhile, Srinagar-based defence spokesperson said that large quantity of arms and ammunition was recovered from the encounter site which include AK 47 (08), AK 47 (16), GPS (03), Campos (03), Binocular (01), Quilt (05), Matrix Sheet (04), Map sheet (04-E 38 to 92 & N 42 to 92) and some Pak made eatable items. Search operation against the hiding militants was going on when the reports last came in.
