Omar fails to keep his promise of regularizing employees | | | Javaid Naikoo SRINAGAR, Aug 1: Tall claims of the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to regularize employees within one month is falling flat as 23 year old need base employees working in different departments are still waiting for it. The move which was seen as part of his measure to recover from poll debacle has not been implemented. The Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah while announcing perks for other employees set one month deadline for regularization of thousands of need base employees working in Public Health Engineering, Forest, Rural Development Department and Horticulture and other departments since 1991, however all such employees are still waiting for regularization. Need base employees of PHE department who protested on Eid Day too outside the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's Gupkar residence say that 'despite clearance from the concerned Minister Sham Lal Sharma and no objection from any Minister of Congress, senior NC leader who always opposed regularization of need base employees working since 1991 for some personal reasons is misleading the Chief Minister and the Chief Minister in turn has halted the process of regularizing them yet again despite himself setting one month deadline. "I was engaged in 1991 as a need base employee and today when my service completes 23 years as need bases employee with four children to feed I feel I was fool on this earth, I know many who were engaged with me and died, many crossed age limit, many will retire in next two years in case they are regularized, but shame on politicians who never paid heed to our demands," said one elderly need base employee of PHE. According to the details received thousands of people who were engaged as need base employees during 1991 and 1992 of Central Kashmir and North Kashmir were regularized on priority bases from 2002 to 2006, while as around 1300 need base of the same grade of Jammu division and South Kashmir were cut off from the list only after some National Conference leaders objected the move of then Government of the state and ultimately added to the miseries of sufferers. When contacted president of Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) Abdul Qayoom Wani said 'that all such employees will have to come on roads once again in Kashmir and Jammu as well as despite setting one month deadline himself, the Chief Minister has failed to fulfill the promises he made with JCC leadership regarding regularization of need base employees.' Qayoom while refuting the allegations of need base employees that 'JCC leadership is divided and has suspended their protest programme as Government has already increased their demand of increasing age limit from 58 to 60, Wani said that within next two days JCC for the last time will try to convince the Chief Minister formally and incase coalition Government failed to meet the demands of employees, Jammu and Kashmir streets will witness massive demonstrations against the Government. |
