| Kashmir: Who has occupied whose land Geelani Sahab? | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 1: Definitely not for his exclusive political ideology and his passion for the 'jihad' that is surfacing with its most savage manifestations in Iraq, Syria, Libya, Afghanistan and Pakistan, Kashmiri separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani deserves to be respected for his age. He is an impressive, eloquent speaker and also a prolific author of books and daily statements for Press without break since 1990.
But Geelani Sahab needs to be quizzed for some clarifications to the statements he has issued in the past few days with regard to "occupation" of the Kashmir's land and the proposed Kousar Naag yatra. According to him, Narendra Modi's BJP-led Government at the Centre is implementing an "Israeli-type plan" to strengthen India's "occupation" of Kashmir by starting a yatra of Kashmiri Pandits to Kousar Naag through Aharbal area of Kulgam district in South Kashmir. In his today's statement, Geelani has called for protest demonstrations in Kashmir against the proposed Yatra at the Friday afternoon prayers at the mosques and a total shutdown on Saturday.
The Modi Government at the Centre in collaboration with the Omar Abdullah Government in Jammu and Kashmir, according to Geelani, is turning Kashmir into another Gaza. In other words, the aborigines are being forced to vacate their homeland by the occupying invaders.
The analogy fails at its face for the total dissimilarity between Kashmir and Palestine. Palestine is a territory where the alien Jewish diaspora has occupied the land of the aboriginal Arabs, mostly Muslims, by force with the help of American military support. Israel has used indiscriminate aerial bombardment hundreds of times since 1967 and killed thousands of the aboriginal Palestinians in the most horrible manner. In the last three weeks, Tel Aviv has attacked not only civilian residential houses but also hospitals and UN-run relief and medical camps. For killing three young boys, Israel has killed about 1300 Palestinians. Most of them are unarmed, innocent civilians---particularly women and young children.
Kashmir is a completely different story. Here the first spiritual accession to Hindustan has been enacted by the Valley's representative religious leadership---the revered saints like Sheikh Hamza Makhdoom, Sheikh Yaqoob Sarfi and Baba Dawood Khaki---in 16th century when they got Kashmir's last sovereign ruler Yousuf Shah Chak dethroned by Akbar The Great, then Hindustan's king. In 1947, the ruler Hari Singh chose to accede to India which was ratified later by Kashmir's undisputed political representative Sheikh Abdullah. Sheikh Abdullah and his colleagues Ghulam Mohammad Sadiq, Bakshi Ghulam Mohammad and Sadiq's sister Zainab Begum organized local militias against the Pakistani tribal invaders and threw them out with the help of the Indian Army while shouting slogans "Hamla Awar Khabardar, Ham Kashmiri Hain Tayaar".
During the three wars with Pakistan, not a single massacre or rape of the Kashmiri women took place anywhere. Geelani Sahab knows it well that in 1965, it were not the Indians from Madhya Pradesh but the Kashmiris who got all the Pakistani "Mujahideen" arrested or killed by the Indian Army. A Palestinian does never get a Palestinian killed or arrested by the Israelis.
Significantly, inspite of the well-orchestrated proxy war with Pakistan, India never used gunship helicopters or drones to eliminate the guerrilla targets in Kashmir in the last 25 years. Militants were killed in encounters wherein collateral damage also took place at many places. On the other hand, elite Z-category of security with hundreds of Indian Police and paramilitary guards have been provided as protection to the Hurriyat and other separatist leaders. Many of them have been provided the same bulletproof cars and door metal detectors and scanners which are installed at the Ministers' residences. At Srinagar and Jammu airports, even the most virulent of the separatist leaders including Geelani Sahab are escorted to the aircraft like VVIPs and hosted with tea and coffee at the VVIP lounges.
Kashmiri separatists waging war against India and glorifying the killers of the Indian citizens and soldiers are provided the Prime Ministerial treatment at India's best hospitals, often at the expense of the Indian State. Geelani Sahab and JKLF chairman Yasin Malik, who is still facing charges of killing innocent unarmed civilians like the families of the Indian Air Force personnel, have been the beneficiaries of this largesse. Government has provided helicopters and other facilities for this purpose. Could anybody imagine this kind of a treatment to the Palestinians by the Israeli Government?
Now coming to the issue of the aboriginals and the aliens, is it not a fact that all the Kashmiri Pandits who want to carry out a small yatra to Kousar Naag are aborigines-the permanent residents--- for centuries? They are an inalienable part and parcel of Kashmir since times immemorial. None of them has come to occupy the land from Gujarat, Kerala or Andhra Pradesh or Samarkand and Bukhara.
On the other hand, Geelani Sahab, with the grace of Allah, is from the progeny of the Sayyids who came to Kashmir with Amir-e-Kabir Mir Sayyid Ali Hamadani, the chief preacher of Islam, just a few centuries back. They were all citizens and residents of Bukhara, Tashkent, Samarkand and other areas of today's CIS states in Central Asia. Geelani Sahab's forefathers are the Pandits' respected guests from a foreign land.
It is perhaps because of such ironical situations of the history that a saying in Kashmiri exists since centuries: "Par gagur karaan gar gagras laar"! [the outsider mouse kicks out the insider mouse]. |
