Waiting for four years to join Congress; corporator Zafar joins PDP, more may follow
Congress learnt no lesson from poll debacle

Jammu, Aug 9: Following debacle in parliamentary polls, the talks of introspection in Congress party are apparently restricted to speeches as the Party has learnt no lessons from crushing defeat it faced in Jammu as its leadership has no time for those who have substantial political standing and wish to join the party .
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) got a shot in arm few days back, when a former Corporator of ward number 2 of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), ZafarJavaid Khan joined the party in presence of PDP patron, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
Sources informed Early Times, ZafarJavaid Khan was personally called by party patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed for joining function. It is reliably learnt that ZafarJavaid Khan was in contact with Congress leaders and was waiting for the last more than four years to join the Congress party.
Zafarhad also met former Union Health Minister GhulamNabi Azad for officially joining the party but Azad had no time for Zafar and other corporators to take them in the party fold.
"Zafar had secured more than 900 votes in Corporation elections and had also unsuccessfully contested 2008 parliamentary elections. The strong base of ZafarJavaid Khan could be gauged from the fact that he had secured 1800 votes in 2008 parliamentary elections, when the winds of Jammu were hostile due to "Bam Bam Bole Agitation of 2008," sources said.
They further added that Zafar along with some other Corporators were willing to join Congress party but former Chief Minister Gulam Nabi Azad failed to spare half an hour, in the last more than four years from his busy schedule.
Sources further divulged that another Corporator Balwant Kumar of ward number 30 and Sanjay Mahey of Ward number 11 were also willing to join the Congress party, but annoyed over the cold response from Gulam Nabi Azad, they might follow the same suit in coming days.
Talking to Early Times, Balwant Kumar said that though they were willing to join Congress but going by the attitude of Congress leaders, they would have to change their mind.
Balwant Kumar had secured more than 2200 votes when he had contested elections independently. "During that time, party mandate was given to a person, who was working in the house of Pt. Mangat Ram Sharma. Whenever the lists of candidates were finalized some influential persons names figured there, and deserving candidates were out", he said.
Former Mayor, Narinder Singh who was close to the above said Corporators, when contacted refused to comment over the developments.
