People unhappy with Budgam MLA, resolve to vote against him | | | Shakeel A Khan
BUDGAM, Aug 19: The upcoming assembly election is not going to be a cake walk for Aga Syed Ruhulla who is representing the Budgam segment for the second consecutive time because of the fact that the people of many villages in the constituency, which otherwise happens to be the stronghold of the National Conference, have resolved to vote for change this time so as to pave way for the progress of the district. There is a strong resentment against the sitting NC MLA because of his underperformance over the last six years. The people of the constituency are up in the arms against the MLA because the sufferings of the people have increased manifold during NC-lead coalition government. There is also a rebellion within the National Conference with many of its staunch supporters having made up their mind to part ways with NC, once the largest regional party. The people of many villages of the constituency like that of Soibugh, Daharmuna, Wadwan, Gotapora, Aarath, Chattabugh, Chewa and many more have formulated a coordination committee with the purpose of bringing a healthy change on the political front in the constituency. "We are not going to vote for the candidate who can't do the simplest of the services to the people of the area. We voted him to power for a couple of times but there was no benefit as the Budgam constituency continues to suffer even for the want of basic amenities like that of the potable water," said Mohammad Ashraf from Daharmuna. Ashraf said what was the use of the sitting MLA who can't even get the damaged transformer repaired; who can't help in making a better road connectivity. He claimed that the MLA "visits only the influentials of the area and knocks at the doors of the poor only when he is in need of the votes". It is not only Ashraf who has grievances against the Budgam MLA but there are many other people from the villages adjacent to Soibugh who are dissatisfied with the services rendered by sitting MLA. These people have many grievances with the MLA but the problem of the flood channel that flows into the wetland of the Hokersar is the telling one. "There are thousands of kanals of paddy land that remain water logged for the whole year as the flood channel directly flows into the paddy fields of Bemina, Soibugh, Hakermulla, Daharmuna, Gotapora and Aarath, ending all chances of any agricultural activity there . This has inflicted heavy losses to the poor peasants," said some elderly people from Soibugh. |
