Cong, NC have lost the way | Soz, Beg on Shias, BJP | | Rustam Jammu, Aug 19: The massive defeat in the Lok sabha has left the Congress and the NC clueless. In fact, they have lost their way completely. They are making statements which only prove that. If Congress spokesperson Salman Soz is terming the Shiite Muslims as non-Muslims or a "minority community", NC senior leader and former Lok Sabha MP Mehboob Beg is describing the BJP victory as a victory of "nefarious designs". They made these highly irresponsible statements in a national news channel, NewsX, while participating in a debate on the cancellation of Kousar Nag Yatra and illegal construction of a structure at Kousar Nag, where a particular flag had been fixed by the radical elements in the majority community - a development that has shocked the Kashmiri Hindu community and triggered a fierce debate in political circles in Jammu and elsewhere as well as media houses. Salman Soz only spoke the language of the Pakistani establishment that treats the Shiite Muslims as non-Muslims and oppresses and suppresses them like other minority communities, including Hindus, Sikhs, Christians, Ahmedias and so on. Salmon Soz, in fact, committed a grave blunder at a time when the Assembly elections are round the corner and the Shiite Muslims are already seething with anger owing to the developments in Iraq, where dreaded Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has unleashed a reign of senseless brutalities against the Shiite Muslims, who constitute majority in that country. His statement, which was a vindication of those who used to denounce the leadership of a particular religious sect as anti-Shiite Muslims, would surely further mar the poll prospects of the already rather unpopular Congress in Kashmir and other parts of the state, including Jammu and Ladakh, which house a substantial chunk of Shiite Muslim population. Only those who have lost the way could say what Salman Soz said. As for Beg, he also crossed all the lines and said he would not hail the victory of the BJP in the state and elsewhere as a democratic victory. "BJP won the election through nefarious designs," he said. In other words, he, like the Congress, insulted the people across the nation, including Jammu and Ladakh, which decimated the NC-Congress coalition candidates and returned to the Lok Sabha all the three BJP candidates, including Jugal Kishore Sharma, Jitendra Singh and Thupstan Chhewang. Interestingly, he did not describe the victory of the PDP candidates, including Mehbooba Mufti, Muzzaffar Hussain Beig and Tariq Hmid Qarra, as a victory of nefarious designs. Mehbooba Mufti defeated Mehboob Beg in the Lok Sabha election. Mature politicians do not make loose or provocative statements, but Salman Soz and Mehboob Beg belong to a different category of leaders who do not know what they say. |
