Omar apparently reluctant to contest elections | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 19: The Chief Minister is apparently still reluctant to contest forthcoming Assembly elections. It's for this reason that he has not announced his candidature. The announcement of the CM's candidature was expected a day after his close confidante Devender Rana's name was cleared from the Nagrota constituency. People expected Omar's candidature as well but it did not happen giving rise to speculations about the intent of the Omar to contest elections. The reluctance stems from the fact that Omar's is still not confident. The CM has still not decided from which constituency he has to contest. There were reports that he may not contest from the Ganderbal. There are also reports that he may contest from a perceived 'secure' seat. The reports suggest that Omar has accepted the fact that he is on a very slippery wicket this time. He had already lost elections in the past but if it is repeated this time, when he is heading the Government, then it could mean shutting down his political career. A senior NC leader said Omar's political career will end if he loses the election. "He is not like Farooq or Azad," he said. . It's because of this reason Omar is still in consultation with his close advisors to chalk-out-strategy. There are also reports suggesting that he is not naming himself could be because of the internal tussle that has started in the party after he projected himself as the Chief Ministerial candidate. "A section of senior party leadership is not happy with the Omar naming his candidature and as a reaction he has been asked to go slow in announcing his candidature or may even have a rethink about contesting the elections," said a senior NC leader. |
