Rajouri , Aug 19 : Rajouri police have busted a timber smuggling racket and recovered 200 logs of kail/timber from the house of an ex-serviceman. Police sources said that after a specific information, a police party from Thanamandi police station, headed by Mehrajudin, DSP probationer, and SHO conducted raid on the house of Barkat Hussain in village Pangai. During search of the house, the police team recovered 200 wooden sleepers dumped in stores with forest mark on them. Barkat Hussian and his son Mohammad Rafqat were immediately taken into custody and police have registered a case under section 379 RPC and 5/16 Forest act under FIR No 119/14. When contacted, DSP Mehraj-ud-Din said that such a huge dump of fresh wooden logs belonging to forest department is not possible without the involvement of forest officials and it can't be ruled out that they are also involved in this illegal timber trade. Most of these sleepers were allegedly being sold to the contractors and those who have been associated with furniture and building construction business in Rajouri. Police have started the investigation and according to senior officers more arrests/ raids may take place within next few days.The raid was conducted under the supervision of A K attri, DIG, and Mubassar Latifi , SSP, Rajouri. |
