Jats demand OBC status

Mendhar, Aug 19: Hundreds of members of Jats community from various parts of Tehsil Mendhar held a protest against the Coalition Government and took out a rally through the market and main lanes of the border town in support of their demand of OBC status.
According to press release, the members said that the Jats of nine states in the country have already been given the OBC status while Jammu and Kashmir is the only State which has still not considered this genuine demand and have deprived the community from its right. The protesters later went to the office of Tehsildar office Mendhar and handed over a memorandum in which they said that they would boycott the Assembly elections if they are not given the OBC status before the coming elections.
The Tehsildar assured the protesters that he would take up the case with the government and send this memorandum to the higher authorities. Prominent among those who participated in the protest include, Advocate Fareed Engineer Javid Iqbal Sarpanch Kabeer, Choudhary Adil Rehm Dad, and Sarpanch Naseer.
