Caught in muck, insensitive administration, girl students stage protest

Early Times Report
Rajouri, Aug 19 : Over two hundred girl students boycotted their classes and held a mass protest demonstration against Chief Education Officer (CEO) Deputy Commissioner and PWD officials after they found huge dumps of garbage including poltythenes and human waste in the school campus and in the class rooms on returning from Janamashtami holidays.
Interestingly Government Girls Middle School building is situated in the campus of CEO office and at a stone throw from his office. Even then, despite several representations by the students in the past, Ch Lal Hussain, CEO has not cared to respond to the problems of the students.
Important to mention that the main drain of the Municipality from main bus stand and some parts of ward No 9 passes through the back side of this school building hence causing huge dump of filthy water during rains.
The over flowing water along with garbage and human waste enters school premises and class rooms causing great inconvenience to the girl students and staff.
Shahbaz Khan , headmaster said that the matter was several times taken up with the successive deputy commissioners and despite hollow promises nothing concrete has been done to divert this drain in to nearby Sukhto rivulet. "The lives of these girls students is always at risk as the plinths of this 40 years old building have been damaged by the logging of filthy water at the backside of the building threatening a big mishap.
CEO , Ch Lal Hussian when contacted did not respond to several phone calls but Jatinder Singh , IAS, deputy commissioner , who recently joined at Rajouri said that he will take up the matter with concerned authorities and only then can take required action in this matter.
Today after protest demonstrations girl students have given seven days ultimatum to the concerned authorities to take necessary action or they will boycott their classes indefinitely. Pertinent to mention that in the month of March this year the then deputy commissioner Hemant Kumar Sharma along with ADC, Saleem malik had visited the school after the same situation arose. They assured the school authorities to carry out necessary repair works which was started in the month of May, but was abandoned due to financial crunch.
