Lost cheque or bribery? | Police arrest top lady official | |
Srinagar, Aug 20: Police on Wednesday arrested a top woman government official of Sheep and Animal Husbandry department on the charges of encashing a cheque worth Rs five lakhs. Sources told Early Times a local businessman, Sajad Ahmad Bhat from Rajbagh, had filed a complaint before police wherein he had mentioned that he has lost a cheque of Rs 5 lakh in Shaheedgunj area. Police in the investigation later found a female Tehseen Mufti, Director Finance Sheep and Animal Husbandry Department Kashmir, involved in the case ."Tehseen Mufti had withdrawn the cheque through her personal account at JK Bank Hari Singh High Street Srinagar on August 6 this month", they said. However, a top police official said that Sajad filed the complaint about him losing the cheque after the lady official refused to do his work even after taking the money. "It is case of illegal gratification. The official had promised a contract to Sajad but after taking the money she refused to oblige him," the officer said. He said soon after it was established that lady official had encashed the cheque police registered a case under FIR No. 70/ under sections 420-467- 468- and 471. |
