Panic grips as 'smoke bomb' accidently explodes in Rajouri

Rajouri, Aug 20: Panic gripped in remote village Chattiyar of Rajouri district today afternoon when some smoke bombs were recovered during a digging operation and one bomb accidently exploded during digging operation and started emitting dense smoke.
Police sources said, "The driver operating JCB (the heavy excavation machinery) and the locals in panic abandoned the village immediately and informed the police and army officers of the nearby units.
They said that smoke bombs were found during the digging operation of land piece in the above mentioned village of Rajouri today.
"The exact quantity of the bomb couldn't be counted as many of them were reportedly buried under the ground, sources said adding, " a bomb disposal squad and officials from Police and nearby army units also rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area to conduct a operation to search for more such bombs or shells that may be lying underground there."
"Senior Army officer from nearby Corps Battle School (CBS) and army unit also rushed to the spot and after initial investigation/checking they called Engineer's bomb disposal, sources said further adding, "Police bomb disposal team and experts also reached and after long discussion it was decided not to dig the earth for the remaining bombs as that can cause further damage."
Sharing details of incident, I A Wani , SHO, Police Station Chingus said that a JCP machine was engaged to level the plot owned by one Kaka Ram s/o Daulat Ram of village Chattiyar. "During digging four smoke bombs were dug out by the JCB machine deployed in digging operation while one of these accidently exploded and started emitting smoke created panic in the village, SHO added.
Some locals of the area maintained that the dump could be one of the war store used during 1965 war with Pakistan, when Indian army had established its camp at his village and these smoke bombs may belong to Infantry units.
