A Hindu can also become J&K CM: Sham | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 20: Senior Congress leader and PHE Minister Sham Lal Sharma today said a Hindu can also become Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. Since Independence, not a single Chief Minister of J&K has come from the minority community in this only Muslim majority state, he said in a function held in his home constituency Akhnoor to mark the 70th birth anniversary of late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, who was known for his IT reforms in the country. Sharma is seen as a the only credible and loud voice of Jammu plains, who takes on Valley-based political parties whenever there is the question of disparity or discrimination with Jammu. He has argued with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in various Cabinet meetings, which has given him a tag of being the leading voice of Jammu. Speaking during the function attended by thousands of youth of Akhnoor Assembly segment after holding Sadbhavana march, Sham Lal Sharma said that there are two norms being used in the state in every sphere of life. "For Kashmir valley one set of norm is implemented but after crossing Jawahar tunnel, these norms are put aside and only discrimination is seen. We have to end this discrimination by bringing regional council for Jammu, sub-regional hill council for Rajouri-Poonch districts and Chenab Valley Hill Development Council for erstwhile district Doda," he added. By his strong stand, Sharma is strengthening his position in his constituency from where his brother, Madan Lal Sharma during Lok Sabha elections got less number of votes as compared to BJP candidate. Now, the PHE Minister is trying to hit the emotional issue by making it clear that a Hindu leader of Jammu region could also become Chief Minister in Jammu and Kashmir. |
