ANANTNAG, Aug 20: An employee of Pahalgam Development Authority (PDA) sustained injuries after locals of Batkoot resorted to violence during a demolition drive against structures constructed illegally.
Officials at PDA informed Early Times that one employee identified as Bashir Ahmad Bala was attacked and injured by the mob when the demolition squad tried to demolish the illegal structure constructed by Manzoor Ahmad Koka.
Injured employee was shifted to Pahalgam hospital where from he was shifted to Anantnag district Hospital in a critical condition, they said.
"Condition of the employee is stable now," a doctor at District Hospital Anantnag told Early Times, adding he will be discharged from the hospital in next 24 hours.
Meanwhile, Pahalgam police took cognizance of the incident and have started up the investigation.
"We have registered case and started the investigation," a senior police official confirmed.
However, the locals denying to have attacked the employee blamed Pahalgam Development Authority for the whole mess.
"We are the residents of Pahalgam and saving its environment is our concern. PDA has done nothing but has cemented whole Pahalgam by allowing haphazard constructions," said a local youth Mohd Shafi.
He blamed that PDA was carrying out selective demolition drive. "If they have courage then they must touch the structures of Cabinet Ministers, influential and rich violators," he said, adding PDA was demolishing residential houses and was not allowing them to repair their houses but was allowing influential people to construct hotels in lush green zones.
Locals told Early Times that PDA has failed to demolish the structures raised by Son-in-Law of State Health Minister Taj Mohi-ud-Din and even have not registered FIR against him. They said that PDA employees were facilitating the privileged Son-in-Law of Taj Mohi-ud-Din who is now-a-days cementing the paths of illegally constructed three hotels on Lidder River bank in Movera area of Pahalgam.
Locals said that besides it PDA has also failed to initiate action against the close relative of Rural Development Minister Ali Mohd Sagar, who has constructed a hotel on river bank in just of couple months this year.
A senior PDA official admitting that they were succumbing under political pressure told Early Times that they somehow today managed to damage the illegally constructed structure which belongs to influential Dr Javid Iqbal. Pertinent to mention here, that Dr Javid is brother of former Chief Town Planner who owns a hospital in Srinagar city.
Influential Doctor has managed to construct over dozens huts in Gojeran Batkoot area of Pahalgam prior to 2013 and now according to locals is allegedly continuing constructing structures illegally.
