Reject NC, Hurriyat, says PDP
Kashmir's Political scene
Rustam8/22/2014 10:48:01 AM

Jammu, Aug 21: The battle lines in Kashmir are drawn. The upbeat PDP has left none in any doubt that its main political rival in Kashmir is what it calls "unpopular and anti-people" NC and that its single-point agenda is to inflict such a crushing defeat on it that it becomes totally marginalized. Interestingly, it has some corner for the Congress, the coalition partner of the NC. Reasons are not difficult to understand. After all, the Congress has a number of times said that it would not mind forming Government with the PDP after the Assembly elections if the situation so warrants.
That the PDP has some soft corner for the Congress became clear on August 19, when senior party leader and ideologue and Member Lok Sabha Muzzaffar Hussain Beig urged JKPCC chief Saif-ud-Din Soz to snap all ties with the NC. Addressing a public meeting at Langate (Handwara), Beig not only accused the NC of being a highly corrupt party, but also charged Chief Minister Omar Abdullah with insulting the Congress in general and JKPCC chief in particular by not conceding the demand seeking summoning of Cabinet meeting at the earliest. The JKPCC chief has been asking the Chief Minister to convene a Cabinet meeting at the earliest so that the issue of reservation for Pahari-speaking people, Other Backward Classes and so on is discussed.
"It is true that the NC and the Congress are leading a coalition Government, but the Congress has little say in the Government," he said, adding "it is time for Saif-ud-Din Soz to sever ties with the NC". "If the JKPCC chief has any self-respect, he must come out of the Government saying the Chief Minister has always ignored him," he also said. Beig didn't cross the line when he asked the JKPCC chief to break ties with the NC. He only hit the nail on the head when he asked him to do so in order to teach the NC a lesson.
In the same breath, Beig also urged the audience to reject the NC, saying it had failed to deliver on any front and that if anything, it had only promoted corruption and destroyed the system, the people and the state. He didn't stop just there. He virtually equated the Hurriyat leaders with the NC leadership and also urged the people to reject the Hurriyat leaders. "The Hurriyat leaders, who claim that they are representatives of the people, have no definite agenda. They are simply running their shops in the name of Kashmir problem. Some Hurriyat leaders are supporting Pakistan and some seeking independence. Time has come for the people to completely reject NC and Hurriyat and the upcoming Assembly elections provide them an opportunity to teach them a lesson," he said. The PDP did a right thing by exposing the Hurriyat leaders, who have only brought death and destruction to the Kashmir valley. All right-thinking people needs to appreciate the stand of the PDP on Hurriyat.
