Early Times Report

Srinagar, Aug 22: Former Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal and National Conference Provincial Secretary Showkat Ahmad Mir on Friday said his party will be going against the set democratic procedure if it gives mandate to anybody else other than him from Gulmarg constituency for the upcoming assembly elections.
Mir said that all the three organizational blocks-Gulmarag, Kunzar and Bangil have recommended only his name before the NC's parliamentary board and if his party preferred DrShiekh Mustafa Kamal over him, the same will be a breach of set democratic procedure involved in the nominations of party candidates.
"You know NC's popularity graph in Gulmarag constituency was at zero. It was totally routed out in Gulmarg constituency. Since I took over as the provincial secretary in the party, I played a pivotal role in raising that graph of my party in Gulmarag constituency. Elections were conducted and we constituted the block level committees and made the party a vibrant political force in the constituency," Mir claimed while talking to reported.
Mir said he joined NC the next day he was asked by the party after his superannuation as deputy commissioner of Ganderbal district. "Since then I have never looked back contributing in strengthening of the party roots in Gulmarg constituency. I hope the parliamentary board of my party which comprises of political stalwarts will take a decision based on the ground reality and will not get carried away by any other consideration. I hope they will rightly advise the Omar Abdullah Saheb about Gulmarg constituency," Mir added.
He said that times have changed so have the public opinion about NC's old faces. "For my party every assembly segment is important this time and it will never try to lose any of the constituency at any cost. People of my constituency have put forth their opinion which reflects that this time they want a change. They want a new face to be given responsibility as they are fed up with the monotonous representation which they think has not been able to cope with the modern challenges," Mir observed.
When asked what will be his next step if NC chose Kamal as the party candidate for Gulmarag constituency, Mir said: "Dr Kamaal is a senior leader in the party.
Whole of Jammu and Kashmir is open for him. But let us cross the bridge when we face it." He added that the mood of the people particularly in Gulmarag constituency is for a change and he hopes that NC's parliamentary board will feel the pulse of people and decide as per the public opinion. "If the NC's parliamentary board decided my name as the party candidate for Gulmarag constituency, people of this assembly segment will get a new lease of life." Asked if the NC takes a final call on Kamaal and declares him as the party candidate from Gulmarag, Mir said: "Then the opponents will have a cake walk in the upcoming assembly elections."
