Jammu, Aug 22: In brazen violation of Labour laws, the administration of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) Jammu is paying Rs. 4500 per month to skilled employees for the last several years, instead of Rs. 6750.
Moreover, nearly 120 employees working in Mechanical and Central Heating division of GMC&H are without salary for the last around one year.
Sources informed Early Times that around 120 employees of Mechanical and Central Heating division of GMC&H, who were working as contractual/need base employees were without salary since November, 2013. Moreover, as per Labour laws, a skilled worker is entitled to Rs. 225 per day but administration is treating them as unskilled workers and has been paying Rs. 150 per day.
Preferring anonymity, an employee of MCH said that in the month of November 2013, they were given four month's salary but once again ten months have elapsed, they were without salary and have been managing their family affairs by taking loan.
"Whenever we inquire about delay in release of salary with higher officials, they gave example of PHE department and said that daily wagers of PHE are without salary for more than 2 years but your salary of few months is pending, so don't worry", he said.
"We are unable to meet our household expenses and even the grocery store owner has refused to give items", an employee while talking to this correspondent at GMC said, adding many employees were unable to afford school fee of their children and the school administration has warned to expel their children.
"I belong to a very poor family and came from a remote village. I have to spend Rs 60 on daily basis on transportation and food, it has become very difficult for me to meet daily requirements in the absence of salary", distressed employee said.
A higher official pleading anonymity said that earlier the salaries of contractual / need basis of MCH have been withdrawn timely but the problem occurred for the last two years.
When contacted Xen Harjeet Singh Chibber accepted the delay in release of salaries, and said that they have made salary cheque of said employees and forwarded to treasury. "We are hoping that within a week time, the salary will be released", he said
