Gunfight breaks out in Zaloora, 2 top LeT militants among trapped | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Aug 22: A fierce encounter broke out between militants and army at Zaloora in north Kashmir's Kupwara district today evening. Official sources told that army's 47 RR launched a search operation at Gugerpati area of Zaloora, 8 Kilometers east from Handwara this evening following the intelligence inputs about the presence of 3 to 4 Lashkar-e-Toiba militants in the area. "As the army reached near the GugerpatiMohalla, the militants hiding in the area opened fire upon the forces at around 7:50 pm. In the firing incident, no one has been injured so far, they said. Meanwhile, an extra contingent of forces including 30 RR and Para soldiers was rushed to the area and they launched the tight cordon in the village. Sources said that the militants believed to be 3 to 4 in number were holed up inside a residential house at Gugerpati in the area. "Top lashkar-e-Toiba Commanders including Abu Saad and Saifullah of Pakistan were among the holed up militants". A senior army official while confirming the cordon and firing incident in the area told GNS that a column of army unit was fired upon by militants in the area. "A tight cordon was laid and the operation was suspended in the night".The operation will be resumed early Saturday morning, the official added. |
