BJP treading cautious line on Pak firing? | | | Kunal Shrivatsa JAMMU, Aug 23: Even as major escalation has erupted on Indo-Pak International Border with Pakistani troops indulging in heavy and unprovoked firing, the state unit of Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) it seems has changed its tone and tenor over the cease fire violations which it used to oppose vociferously on roads when it had not tasted the fruits of power at Centre. While the heavy shelling by Pakistan Rangers is continuously going on for the last few days which resulted in loss of some human lives as well as grievous injuries to several others, however, the BJP with its 'trademark' protests over the Pakistan aggression is not visible on the streets of Jammu city. Surprisingly, the state BJP, which used to blame Congress led UPA Government for its 'soft approach' on Pakistan whenever its forces resorted to firing on International Border or Line of Control (LoC), perhaps now has forgotten the art of protesting since it cannot afford to go up against the Pak firing which will be an indirect attack on its Government at centre. While the people residing along International Border particularly in RS Pura and Arnia have no respite from the increased shelling by the Pakistan troops, the state BJP preferred to concentrate on 'Mission 44+' for the upcoming Assembly polls and extending red carpet treatment to Central leaders, who are on a visiting spree to Jammu to prepare grounds for the party's success. However, today the state BJP state president and MP Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha segment, Jugal Kishore Sharma paid visit to forward areas to ascertain the amount of losses suffered by the border area people. It was a clear attempt to justify the party position as Jugal Kishore and BJP knows that it would be suicidal for the party to ignore the plight of those affected in the border areas of RS Pura and Arnia where over three thousand people have moved to safer places due to unprovoked shelling by Pakistan troops. |
