Land dispute between NHPC, locals in Kishtwar turns ugly
CISF, police drag us haplessly accuses land owners

Kishtwar Aug 23: The situation at a disputed land site turned grim after a tussle between the land owners, police and the CISF jawans and police had to resort to mild cane charging to restore the law and order but the land owners accuses police and CISF of using force to throw them out of their own land. As per the details available with "Early Times", revenue officials along with team of police, CISF and officials of NHPC Kishtwar reached the disputed site and allegedly tried to forcefully evict the land owners from the piece of the land situated outside the boundary walls of the demarcated land of the NHPC colony at Semna Kishtwar. The NHPC authorities are making the claims over the said piece of land measuring about four kanal while locals claim that the land belongs to them. While talking to "Early Times", land owner Firdous Ahmed Baghwan said that police personal and CISF Jawans on the direction of NHPC officials used unnecessary force against them while the case is still pending at different forums of law. He alleged that CISF Jawans accompanied by NHPC officials dragged them on gun point. He alleged that senior officials of district administration were also on the back of NHPC. He said that they have valid documents of the land and accused NHPC of trying to forcibly take their land. Another land owner Saifudin Baghwan said that for the last over 30 years the land is under in their control and added that they are using the same for agriculture purpose. He alleged that NHPC has already taken their lands at the time of starting construction work of 390 MW Dul-Hasti power project. He alleged that NHPC has betrayed the land owners who donated their lands for project by not fulfilling its promise of providing jobs to those families who donated their lands for the project. Meanwhile two land owners identified as Khurshid Ahmed Baghwan and Mohammad Ashraf Baghwan received grave injuries during police and CISF action. Both were shifted to District Hospital Kishtwar in unconscious condition from where Khurshid Ahmed Baghwan was referred to GMCH, Jammu. As per his family members, Khurshid received injury in his head and also received some internal injuries in the incident.The condition of other injured who was undergoing treatment at District Hospital Kishtwar is said to be stable.
