Srinagar, Aug23; Just one day before the commencement of last session of 11th J&K legislative assembly here , Law, Justice and Parliamentary Minister, Mir Saifullah Saturday clarified that he never questioned the integrity of the Yog Guru Baba Ramdev who has strongly opposed the passage of `The Kashmiri Hindu and Shrine and Religious Places (Management and Regulation) bill 2009. Talking exclusively to Early Times, Mir Saifullah today clarified that the statement attributed to him by a section of media questioning the integrity of Ram Dev was totally wrong and concocted. Mir said that he holds Ramdev in high esteem and has a lot of respect for him. It merits a mention here that a newspaper report had earlier quoted Saifullah saying, "who is Baba Ramdev".?. Mir said that he never used such words against yog guru. "I only said that as that ' The Kashmiri Hindu and Shrine and Religious Places (Management and Regulation) bill 2009 has been referred to the joint select committee and that the government was waiting for the return of the bill with recommendations from the committee.
Mir said the joint select committee had been constituted by Speaker Mubarak Gul asking it to go through the bill and submit report in next session of the Assembly, which is starting on August 25. However, the yog guru, Baba Ramdev in a letter written to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had said his Bharat Swabhiman Nyas is strongly opposed to the bill, which had been introduced in the Assembly in 2009 by a handful of vested interests without consulting representatives of Hindus. "Majority of Hindu Samaj hasn't been consulted for this very sensitive bill, whose some of the provisions were 'anti-Hindu' and unconstitutional," he said in his letter dated August 12. A copy of the letter has also been sent to Minister of State for Home, Jammu and Kashmir and all members of the Joint Select Committee, Pointing out that since aims and objectives of the bill were to save those Hindu religious places in Kashmir, which were damaged or encroached upon after migration of Kashmiri Pandits in 1990, Ramdev had said he failed to understand the attempts to bring all Hindu religious places under the bill. "In the independent India's history, this is first example of bringing all Hindu religious places under the Government control," he had said adding: "if at all this bill has to be passed, the Government should exclude the religious places of Hindus, which were autonomous, self-reliant or which had neither been damaged nor were closed down during the period of militancy". Noting that the bill contained some provisions, which would create rift between Kashmiri Hindus and non-Kashmiri Hindus, the Yog Guru had said the bill has spelt out that the person born in Kashmir is a Kashmiri Hindu and others are non-Kashmiri Hindus. Pertinently, the Joint Select Committee was scheduled to meet on Aug19 to finalize the recommendations; however, the meeting could not take place as members of the committee could not make it to attend the meeting. Secretary, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, M Ashraf Mir, while talking to this correspondent said that since the 11th assembly is meeting for its last session, the committee will get dissolved automatically and so the bill.
