NC-Cong Coordination Committee meets | | | Srinagar, Aug 27: After an apparent faceoff over some important issues pertaining to re-settlement of refugees, reservation of Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Other Backward Classes (OBCs), the National Conference and Congress Coordination Committee met here on Wednesday evening. Sources told Early Times various issues came up for discussion during the meeting. "The meeting discussed issues, including vacant posts in Public Service Commission (PSC), State Accountability Commission (SAC) and State Human Rights Commission (SHRC). The committee also held threadbare discussion on issues of Paharis and refugees. The meeting also discussed regularization of daily wagers," sources added. Pertinently, ties between the NC-Congress coalition had suffered a jolt earlier this month when NC leaders skipped the CCC meeting following the assertion of JKPCC Chief Prof Saifuddin Soz that Congress faced defeat in the parliamentary polls due to it entering into a pre-poll alliance with NC. Soz had also predicted that coalition would fall if the Chief Minister fails to call the cabinet and the CCC meets. Soz had accused NC of suffering from 'lack of coordination' within the party. "It is unfortunate that NC didn't attend the meeting. We wanted to raise the issues of people so that their woes could end at an earliest but the backtracking of NC was unfortunate. Actually it is the lack of coordination within the National Conference due to which the meet had to be cancelled," Soz had said. After NC leaders skipped the meet state Congress leaders took up the issue with the party high command and had urged it to pull out from the government. However, high command turned down the proposal of the JKPCC leaders. Following which Prof Soz offered an olive branch to NC and said that he was not interested in pulling down the government if democratic and constitutional institutions function properly. |
