8/28/2014 1:02:51 AM
KISHTWAR, Aug 27: Over 500 workers have become idle with the closure of work by the L&T on Rattle Power Project in Kishtwar after workers unrest. According to sources the closure of work on project by L&T has generated a lot of public resentment in Kishtwar and Doda districts and people are up in arms against the Government which failed to take a iontiative and persuade the strking workers to resume work. Sources said by abandoning the work on project the chances of its speedy construction have been hampered and this way the development in this hilly belt will also be hampered. The Project on which work was started one and a half year back had a target date of completion within five years. But after the work remained suspended for two long months due to workers unrest and later it was abandoned by the company the chances of its speedy completion are remote, sources added. Sources said over 500 workers working in the project have become idle after the stopping of work by L&T as the company refuted to work under prevailing circumstances caused due to workers strike. Sources said though district administration had tried a lot to settle the issue through mediation between the striking workers and the company management but it failed to get the both on negotiating table and settle the issue. With the abandoning of work on the project by the L&T the peoples hopes have been dashed to ground as the 500 local youth who were engaged in the project lost their livelihood. Meanwhile, senior Congress leader from Kishtwar and Member Kissan Board, Shasmsher Singh Bhandari has sought immediate intervention of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah in the matter. In a meeting here today while discussing the outcome of the L&T decision which abandoned the work on the project, it appealed the Chief Minster to intervene and settle the issue so that the work on Hydel project is resumed by the Company. The meting said that 500 youth of the district have become idle after the abandoning of the work by the company and the Government should immediately intervene in the matter to get the issue settled so that work is resumed on the project. The project which was allotted to GVK by the Government had sublet the work to L&T over one and a half years back
