Jammu, Aug 27 : The State unit of Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has not yet announced any list of probable candidates for the upcoming assembly elections, though a list was expected anytime after 25 August. Sources said, BJP has decided to field its candidates on all the 46 assembly segments to make their presence felt in valley.
The Habba Kadal constituency which was predominantly dominated by Kashmiri Pandit community now living in Jammu and other parts of country play an important role in winning this particular segment. This has remained traditionally a Kashmiri Pandits' majority area in Srinagar and after the exodus in 1989, they still play a significant role in deciding the fate of the candidate. As per the information available with Early Times , the BJP is thinking of fielding a strong Kashmiri pandit candidate from Habba Kadal and there are strong indicators that either Moti Koul, a veteran Pandit leader or Ashutosh Taploo, the son of late Tika Lal Taploo who was killed by militants in 1989, are in the probable candidates for this important constituency. Both names are running at top, but who will emerge winner is only to be seen. Recently a statement from Lok Jan Shakti Party leader Sanjay Saraf said that he is the probable candidate of NDA alliance from Habba Kadal thus added more confusion to it. He gave this statement inSrinagar to media persons and is working in the constituency. This constituency has given two kashmiri pandit legistators Pyare Lal Handoo and Raman Mattoo, but last assembly election, Shamima Firdous of National Conference emerged winner as six Kashmiri Pandit candidates fought election from habba kadal thus divided the votes. This time who win be official candidate from BJP or NDA, only time will tell and will end all the speculations.
