RS Pura/Jammu, Aug 28 President, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Member Parliament (MP) Mehbooba Mufti today asked Defence ministers of India as well as Pakistan to ensure safety of residents of border villages or quit. Mehbooba said this during her interaction with the shelling and cross border firing affected villagers of Rangpur, Chanduchack, Trewa, Jeora Farm, Chakrohi villages in Ranbhir Singh Pura tehsil of Jammu district.
She questioned the role of Defence Ministers of India and Pakistan when civilians on the borders of the two countries are not safe as far as loses they have suffered in the form of lives and livestock are concerned.
Appreciating the policy initiated by the former NDA Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee to maintain peace on the International Borders as well as the Line of Control (LoC), she said civilians are suffering, whether it is the Indian border or the Pakistani border and hence it is the moral responsibility of the Defence Ministers as well as the Prime Ministers of the two countries to come for dialogues to ensure peace to the border villagers. She said that in the division of the country to India and Pakistan in 1947, few leaders were responsible who later on represented two countries but people of Jammu and Kashmir are worst sufferer of terrorism and problems due to border tensions more than anyone in the country for the hatred between two countries.
During interaction with the Member Parliament Mehbooba Mufti, border residents highlighted their demands including compensation of Rs 5 Lakh to those families, who have lost their souls in firing and shelling; compensation for the damage to the standing crop; an alternative arrangement of 5 marla land for their safety in safe zones; retrieving of land encroached in fencing and facility of transport to the affected villagers. Mehbooba ensured the villagers that the issue will be highlighted with the Prime Minister of the country and all the demands raised by the villagers would be highlighted on priority.
