Papa, son fail to hold NC together? | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 28: The National Conference is now publicly vertically split between Omar Abdullah and Dr Farooq Abdullah camp. The simmering had been going on for a while but it came out in the open in the Legislative Council. The altercation between Devender Rana and Shehnaz Ganai on a calling attention moved by the latter over cross-border firing and then outmaneuver her the former moved a private members resolution for Indo-Pak talks was reflection of division in the camp. Rana is a close confidant of the Omar and has now got total grip over the party. Dr Shehnaz Ganai is a daughter of former NC Minister who was close to Dr Farooq and it was because of this proximity, she was made MLC, though first being denied the ticket. Rana had assumed that he controls that party and only his writ runs there. The Omar camp had total domination and got submission from the party members. But, he was caught wrong way when her private member resolution was objected by Shehnaz Ganai. Rana, an engineer and considered has an assumption of himself being the sole articulate member of the party, was countered by a doctor, who had also made her mark by her articulation in the Concil. The assertion by Ganai, though may be considered as an individual take, is also seen as an again assertion by the Dr Farooq Abdullah. "The serious and senior members of the party know that party can survive only if Dr Farooq comes to grip of the party. The assertion of the Ganai in the Council, when she tried to take on Rana, is symbolic of it," said a senior NC leader. Farooq is trying to stage come back and his recent press statements first taking on the Azad and then on cross-border firing, which was somber and statesmanship like, shows that he is trying to take call of his party members and thus in the process may try to cut the Omar's coterie to the size. |
