Congress supports Rana's resolution | Learning no lesson from defeats | | Rustam JAMMU, Aug 29: The August 27 highly controversial and provocative attempt of NC MLC Devender Singh Rana to get his resolution on talks with Pakistan discussed and passed has got support from the Congress. The resolution was passed on Thursday, as the NC and the Congress had a majority in the Legislative Council. The move of Rana was roundly condemned by the responsible Indian media, by strategic affairs experts, by former Generals and diplomats, by well-wishers and friends of India and by a number of political parties, including the BJP and Shiv Sena. The anchors of news channels like Times Now and NewsX dismissed Rana's move as "anti-national" and highly "reprehensible". Almost, barring the defeated Mehboob Beg of NC, termed the Rana's resolution an act of sedition, with Rana defending the indefensible and inviting more ire and ridicule. Mercifully, the Congress, which claims that it is a party of an all-India-character and committed to the unity and integrity of India, took a stand which disturbed the anchor and all the panelists, barring Beg. The Congress national spokesperson and known Narendra Modi-baiter Ameen Yagnik, who hails from Gujarat, instead of tearing into the NC, made common cause with the erring NC. She said there was nothing wrong in what Rana did in the Legislative Council and that sky would not fall in case the "anti-India" resolution was discussed and adopted. She, like Beg, did not endorse those who repeatedly said that it would have bee better had the NC moved a resolution against Pakistan, which was responsible for the ongoing secessionist-related violence in the Valley and ceasefire violations and the resultant displacement of thousands of poor civilians, deaths and injuries in Jammu province. On the contrary, the Congress national spokesperson and NC's Beg shamelessly tried to defend the Rana's controversial action. It was hoped after May 16 that the Congress would learn lesson from its humiliating defeat and behave in responsible manner to win over the nation. But it has not happened. That's the reason the Congress, like the NC, is losing more and more political space with each passing day. |
