Omar continues to abstain from LA proceedings | | | Sandeep Bhat SRINAGAR, Aug 29: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has been conspicuous in Legislative Assembly by his absence. According to political commentators, the continued absence of the Chief Minister in a session is unprecedented. This, they said, never happened in Mufti's and Azad's regime. Even Dr Farooq preferred to face the opposition on the Floor of the House, they said. Two important papers which the Chief Minister should have tabled in the Assembly were handled by Minister of Law and Parliamentary Affairs Mir Saifullah. Talking to Early Times, a senior politician said that the present dispensation is not serious in business of assembly and that is one of the reason why Tarigami's private member resolution was passed with voice vote and role of Speaker is also not so good. He said the Chief Minister should have remained present in the Assembly as this is the last session of the current legislature. Even as some senior politicians believe that the Chief Minister is not supposed to remain present but, they said Omar should have remained present. People, however, expect to see the Chief Minister in the House on the last day of the session. It is pertinent to mention here that National Conference has not yet finalized the fourth list of probable candidates in which his name will also figure, so he might be busy in finalizing and hope on the last day of this short autumn session, he will make his presence felt in the legislative assembly. |
