BOPEE failure to conduct BEd entrance exam worries candidates | 1600 candidates in dilema as entrance test for BEd is on Aug 31 but admission in private colleges closes on Sept 1 | | Akshay Azad JAMMU, Aug 29: The failure of Board of Professional Entrance Examination (BOPEE) to conduct entrance examination for B.Ed course is worrying the candidates because the entrance test for 250 seats in the government college is on August 31 but the admission in private colleges is closing on September 1, leaving students in dilema. Sources said nearly 1600 candidates have filled application forms for B.Ed entrance examination for Government College of Education, Canal Road, Jammu and many of them have also filled forms for admissions to private B.Ed Colleges. "The last date to fill application forms in private B.Ed colleges was August 25 and the admission is closing on September 1. We have also filled form for entrance to government college but now we have been getting phone calls from private B.Ed colleges to take admission or our seats will be cancelled", students said. They said the fee for filling application form was Rs 1,300 and admission fee in private B.Ed college was nearly Rs 25000-30,000. "If we take admission in private colleges and later we also qualify the entrance test of government college, the private college will not refund our admission fee", the students said. They said that though they could get admission in second phase, which was scheduled to start from August 2 to August 14, some prestigious colleges of Jammu, where they were willing to get admission have been saying that once the seats are filled, they would not give admission to them. "We want to get admission in government college or in prestigious private B.Ed college of our choice but now we are in total dilemma. What can we do as even private college managements have been making phone calls to get admission otherwise seats will be cancelled", the students said. Criticising the authorities, they said the syllabus for private as well as Government B.Ed college was compiled by Jammu University, then what was the need to give permission to private colleges to start admissions before entrance test for government seats. "The private B.Ed colleges have been exploiting the situation for which Jammu University is responsible", the students said, adding that after the declaration of results of entrance test the admission and councelling in private colleges should be started. An official of Jammu University pleading anonymity said that majority of seats in private B.Ed colleges were vacant and to fill the seats, the private college owners have been making phone calls to students, so that they could take admission without waiting for result of entrance test. "It is merely a pressure tactic of private B.Ed college management, which is exploiting students", he said. He said it was due to delay on part of BOPEE that students have been suffering. "The result of graduation was declared months back, while admission to all M.A courses has already closed in all Universities, but BOPEE has not conducted the entrance test. Even after declaration of B.Ed entrance result, many students will leave M.A course who will qualify entrance examination, so the onus lies on BOPEE", he said. Chairman of BOPEE, R D Sharma said that nearly 1600 students have applied for entrance test and the result would be declared within fifteen days. Director Colleges, Prof Deshbandu assured that there was no need to worry for the students who are taking entrance examiation and first preference would be given to the students in all B.Ed colleges, even in second phase. |
