Jammu, Aug 30: Despite the tall claims of government to give boost to education in the state, about 13 Government primary schools in Purmandal block of district Samba are without drinking water facilities. Sources informed Early Times that in Purmandal block, government has opened around 39 Primary Schools. Thirteen of them, including PS Bara Khettar, PS Gujjar Nallah Keuli, PS Sadral, PS Vijaypur ward no.2, PS Bakerwal Colony, PS Amwal, PS Salmeri, PS Paddar Brahmana, PS Rakh Chirk, PS Gupwal, PS Sarmal, PS Daghed and PSMeghnallah are facing dearth of drinking water facilities for years. Meanwhile, other primary schools where drinking water is being supplied are also facing scarcity of water since the supply was being made occasionally. Rashid Mohammad, Sarpanch of Panchyat Deon, said that a few primary schools were running in rented buildings and some in single rooms. Referring to Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Tara Chand's statements about education sector getting focused attention of the government, he said these statements were ineffective on ground. "Government has failed to provide basic facilities in Primary schools in Purmandal block," he added. Primary schools in our areas are still without availability of potable water facility, road connectivity and electricity", he said, adding that the failure of the state government to provide basic facilities in these schools is also violative of Supreme courts orders. It is pertinent to mention here that in its significant judgment, the Supreme Court had made mandatory for all states to provide electricity connection and other basic facilities to schools. But ironically, in our state, a number of schools are running without basic facilities. When contacted, Chief Education Officer, Mangal Dev said that he joined this office a few days back and after holding new assignment he visited different schools falling under his jurisdiction. "I will seek information from ZEO, Parmandal about the ground realties of these schools", he added. |
