Jammu, Aug 30: Patients in the emergency ward of government Hospital, Gandhi Nagar, are really in trouble during these hot and humid days as three out of five air conditioners are laying defuct for the past three months. The patients in Emergency Ward of Govt Hospital Gandhi Nagar informed this correspondent that despite their repeated complaints to the higher hospital authorities, the ACs have not been repaired. "Two ACs are totally damaged. Though these were repaired many times, these continue to be defunct", a hospital employee said. Hamid din, a patient, who is resident of Sainik Colony, said he was admitted to the emergency ward for the treatment of his infected intestines but hot and humid conditions, caused by the faulty ACs, compelled him to shift somewhere else. An employee said that for the last three months, three ACs of the emergency wing and one desert cooler have been lying defunct. "On one hand Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has been claiming in public speeches that healthcare facilities have improved but such is the condition of city hospitals and one can easily imagine the condition of rural and far-flung hospitals", a doctor said. Another patient in female emergency ward said that centralised AC plant has been installed in the ward due to which there was no cross ventilation. "Whenever an AC goes kaput or power goes off, patients start suffocating", she said, adding that in absence of AC, fans and desert coolers must be installed there. Medical Superintendent, Dr Younis said that he had joined the office last month and since then ACs were lying defunc. "We have sufficent funds for repairing electronic gadgets and the defunct ACs will be repaired as soon as possible," he assured. |
