Soldier killed in Kalaroos encounter

KUPWARA, Aug 30: One Army trooper died and another got injured when suspected militants fired on a patrol party of the Army near the Line of Control (LoC) in Kalaroos area of Lolab in Kupwara District of north Kashmir on Saturday.
According to official sources that the exchange of gunfire ensued when Army after cordoning off Baran Top in Kalaroos area of Lolab came in contact with the insurgents in the wee hours of Saturday morning.
"One soldier died and another got injured in an ongoing operation against militants by the government forces near the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district official said.
He said that so far, six guerrillas and three army soldiers have been killed in this operation which has been going on for the last 20 days near the Line of Control in frontier district of Kupwara, official said.
Official said that a large group of heavily armed militants have infiltrated into the Indian side of the Line of Control (LoC) in this area following which a massive operation was started against them by the forces.
Giving details a top police official said that in past a group of militants who had sneaked into this side of Line of Control (LOC) in Machil sector in the last week, the group after reaching Dhok Behak area of Nunwani in Kalarosa was intercepted by the army's 41 and 45 Rashtriya Rifles (RR).
It is pertinent to mention here that in the past attacks an army soldier Sepoy Rahul Kumar, 22, (Belt no. 270831 P) was injured and later who succumbed due to his injuries.
In past during the gunfight four Ultras were gunned down and two troopers of 45 RR got injured in past week.
Official said that an army soldier was killed after a group of militants attacked army's patrolling party along Line of Control (LoC) in Keran sector of north Kashmir's Kupwara district few days back.
Militants opened fire upon army's patrolling party of 23 Grenadier (under 268 Infantry Division) at Mundian forest in Keran sector in past week, official maintained.
Meanwhile an extra contingent of forces rushed to the area to combat the militants hiding in the area, Army has cordoned off the whole forest area in Lolab area.
