J&K not a football, it's part of Indian state
NC crossing the fine line

Rustam
JAMMU, Aug 30: Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) is not a football as one NC MLC sought to suggest the other day in the Legislative Council while extending his communal and pro-Pakistan support to the pro-Pakistan resolution another NC MLC moved for adoption. Nor is J&K a bridge between India and Pakistan. "J&K seems to be a football. Sometimes India plays with it and sometimes Pakistan. There is a match fixing between the two nations and this firing and no talks is part of that. Today Pakistan is helping India and tomorrow India would reciprocate," said the NC MLC while supporting the highly controversial resolution that asked New Delhi to resume talks with Pakistan.
J&K is also not a bridge between India and SAARC countries. Besides, it is also not bridge between India and China and Iran. J&K is like other states of the Union. The Indian Constitutions says so. The state constitution also says so in unequivocal terms. Both the constitutions say that J&K is and shall be an integral part of India. The state constitution also says that POJK and Gilgit-Baltistan are integral parts of J&K. The constitution has reserved 24 seats in the J&K Legislative Assembly for the people of POJK and Gilgit-Baltistan. Not just this, the August 13, 1948 UN resolution, which became redundant in 1972, when India and Pakistan signed Simla Agreement, asks Pakistan to vacate the aggression so that the Indian troops maintain law and order in POJK and Gilgit-Baltistan. In other words, the UN resolution recognizes the Indian sovereignty in J&K as it existed on August 15, 1947.
There should be no confusion about the political status of J&K. Those who are terming J&K a football are not revealing the true story of facts. They are only suppressing the truth and preaching falsehood for narrow communal and political considerations. In fact, they are making the lives of the people of the state insecure. The line they have adopted would lead them nowhere. Contrarily, it would only adds to the problems of the people. But one thing they must not forget: Things in the country have changed with the establishment of a stable government at the Centre - a government which is led by a party which has its own 282 members in the Lok Sabha.
