Need base workers of STD Ganderbal protest, demand probe into fudging of funds | | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Aug 30: The need based workers of Sub Transmission Division Ganderbal today protested and geared the Executive Engineer for his failure in submitting the detailed information of 360 need based workers of the Division to higher authorities of PDD for their regularisation. The workers held a protest demonstration against the Executive Engineer and alleged that he was adopting delaying tactics in submission of their case to higher authorities for regularisation deliberately. The protestors also tried to lock the XEn inside the office premises however he managed to leave the office. The protestors raising slogans against the authorities were demanding submission of their information to higher authorities in the Department failing which they will launch agitation. They alleged that they are even deprived of the wages and are paid only Rs 500 every year on Eid festival while lakhs of rupees are withdrawn on their name annually. Terming it a big scandal they demanded probe into the matter and action against the corrupt officers. The protestors said that out of 507 need based workers the proposals for the regularisation of 147 were only submitted to the higher authorities while the rest were kept pending, said Sheikh Nazir president of Need Based Employees Union Gh. Hassan Khan. He said these workers have been engaged by the order of ministers since 2005 and all have completed their seven years service for regularisation. The Government recently announced to regularise the daily rate workers and we also approached the concerned authorities to submit our proposals but they acted in a partisan way and submitted the proposals for 147 need based workers only, he added. This is the biggest Division of PDD in Kashmir Valley having its jurisdictions in two districts Srinagar and Ganderbal, said Bilal Ahmed Kak vice president of the Union. Accusing the authorities of total injustice with the hapless workers he said that deliberately their proposal have not been submitted to higher authorities by the officers concerned, headed. This has generated lot of resentment among the workers who are discharging their duties regularly for over 10 years now, he said adding they were left with no option but to come to streets. Making a startling disclosure Bilal said that these workers are not even being paid their wages but only given Rs 500 annually on festival of Eid while the funds meant for their wages are being fudged. Taking a serious note of the same Mir Ghulam Rasool Butwani demanded a probe into the matter to ascertain the facts. Mir, who besides a veteran trade unionist has joined politics recently. He said that this happens in the Constituency of Chief Minister and when people in CM's Constituency are deprived of justice what will be the situation in other parts of country. Mir said people of Ganderbal will not tolerate this injustice and corrupt establishment and launch an agitation to rid State people of the same. He said the root cause of militancy also lies in maladministration, rising corruption and favouritism and denial of justice to deserving people. He said it is high time that people should get united and fight against this misrule and corrupt regime. |
