Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 31: Police, paramilitary forces and the Army have been directed to intensify search operations in several sensitive areas in the Kashmir valley, especially in Kupwara-Baramulla-Sopore segment in north Kashmir following rise in the activities of militants.
Official sources said that these inst ructions have been issued after security forces were engaged in series of encounters with militants at different places in the valley.
Sources said that search operations are to be intensified in the border belts of Poonch, Rajouri and some sectors on this side of the International Border in Jammu.
These measures are being taken following reports that more than 400 militants have been brought on the launch pads across the LOC and the IB in Jammu and Kashmir for the purpose of pushing them into the state for hiking the level of violence that was needed to help separatists in ensuring peoples' response to their call for poll boycott.
Rough estimates have revealed that during the last 29 days of August as many as 20 militants were killed in several encounters with the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir, most of them having been killed in north Kashmir.
No doubt more than 10 security personnel were killed during ceasefire violations by the Pakistani troops and during a number of encounters with the militants in last over two months.
Instructions have gone to the security forces to smash hideouts of militants during the search operations and recover all arms, ammunition and explosives from the hideouts.
Sources said that these search operations have become necessary because some militants may have managed to infiltrate into the state under the cover of ceasefire violations. Before these militants carved out new hideouts and triggered violence search operations needed to be launched against them.
