CD hospital gets Govt's step-motherly treatment | Continues to be in bad condition but Govt not bothered | | Shakeel A Khan
SRINAGAR, Aug 31: The government has failed to improve the working conditions in the chest disease (CD) hospital -- Drogjan Hospital -- of the valley. The lack of facility of taking up the post-graduation course has hit the patient care very badly in the hospital. As far as other hospitals of the Srinagar are concerned, the chest disease hospitalis clearly lagging behind as there is the dearth of expert doctors and facilities are below standard. It appears as if the authorities have no concern for this hospital that daily witnesses a huge rush of patients. "The interiors are repulsive and no care is being given to the cleanliness there. Given the kind of the patients admitted there, they face a high risk of getting infected there as the dirt continues to litter in and around the hospital," said an attendant of a patient admitted there. So far as other hospitals of the district Srinagar are concerned, new research programmes are carried out there to find the new ways of treatment for the patients but this spirit is altogether missing in the chest disease hospital, which caters to a huge rush of patients with chest related problems. The lack of facilities for research and post graduate courses in the hospital is also a hurdle on its progress. Besides this, no renovation has been done in this hospitalwhere one can find the old fashioned ward blocks devoid of the proper furniture which stops a lot of people from visiting this hospital despite being so approachable. "I prefer to visit J.L.N.M hospital at Rainawari or S.M.H.S hospital to get my mother checked up as she suffers from the chronic bronchitis as she is reluctant to visit thechest disease hospital because it isn't well maintained. It is no better than the Batamaloo transport yard," said Ali Mohammad from Dalgate Srinagar, whose house is just at some distance from the hospital. It has been observed that a lot has been written about the problems faced by otherhospitals of the Srinagar district but this hospital has failed to get the media attention, not to talk of the people in corridors of power. Chest diseases become more problematic during winters. As the winter is approaching nearer, this is the right time for the authorities to gear up so as to ensure the proper functioning of the hospital.
