SRINAGAR, Sept 1: The fate of Kashmiri Hindu Shrines and Temple Bill is not known but the community has decided to teach the lesson to both National Conference and Congress in the coming Assembly elections.
The Kashmiri Pandit community which is living in exile in Jammu and other parts of the country feel that this coalition government has played with the sentiments and emotions of the community and played politics on the introduction and passage of this important bill. Many feel that it was a deliberate attempt on the part of government not to pass or even take this bill in the recently concluded brief autumn session in Srinagar.
It is pertinent to mention here that Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Mir Saifullah himself introduced this bill in last budget session and promised to get it passed, but with the opposition from Panthers and others, this bill was sent to select committee for further consultation, but neither consultation was held nor any meeting of select committee took place, so the fate of this important bill remains uncertain. Now when the autumn session is also over, it remains to be seen what will happen to this temple bill which was meant for bringing all the shrines and temples of Valley under one board like Shri Amarnath Shrine Board and Shri Vaishno Devi Shrine board.
Talking to this correspondent, Dr.RL Bhat who was in forefront for passage of this bill said that the government has deceived our community by breaking the promise made by Minister and others and has let us down.
He said that the community hoped that in the last session at least this government will give some succour to the community but this present dispensation will now have to face music in the coming elections. Though our community is small in number yet we will be the decisive factor in many Valley seats. Another person, who is associated with Prem Nath Bhat memorial committee and who spearheaded the agitation for the passage of this bill, Dr A N Pandita said that this community will not forget the humiliation which this government gave and by mere getting under the pressure of some powerful individuals, this government succumbed to the pressure and played fraud with community. The Kashmiri Pandits will teach them a lesson for their betrayal and in many segments like Habbakadal, Amirakadal, Sonawar, Anantnag, Devsar, Tral and other places, will be instrumental in deciding the fate of winning candidate in coming Assembly elections. What is the future of Kashmiri Hindu Shrines and Temple Bill is not known, but this community feel cheated by this government and has decided to teach them a lesson in its own way.
