KPs up in arms against govt for sabotaging Shrines, Temples Bill | Decide to vote against coalition candidates | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 1: Kashmiri Pandits (KPs), feeling betrayed due to the non-passage of Shrines and Temples Bill which the government had decided to pass in the autumn session of the state assembly, have decided to vote against the coalition candidates in the upcoming assembly elections in the state. They say they will favour only that party which will ensure the protection of their shrines and religious places in the valley which are allegedly facing a threat both from the land mafia and the government. Taking serious note of the government's role on shrines and Temples Bill, the displaced KPs all over the country have decided not to vote for coalition candidates in the coming Assembly elections as both parties have betrayed the community on temples and shrines Bill. The NC-Congress coalition has been exposed before the community and both the parties were responsible for the plight of the community also, said Ashok Kaul, a social activist from Mumbai. He said the community is unanimous in its opinion to work against the two parties which were responsible for their displacement, present turmoil in the state and bad state of Hindu shrines and temples in the valley. These were the alleged wrong policies of the two parties which only for remaining in power ignored the common interests of the people of Kashmir and forced the youth to take to arms in revolt, he said. The government despite assuring to create a Board for protection of shrines and temples in the valley has backtracked from its promise just to please separatists and some vested elements opposed to the formation of the same, said Dr Ramesh, another social activist from Bangalore. He said when J&K Government had no problem in constitution of Board for shrines of Sukhrala Mata, Shiv Kohri, Bala Sundri etc despite the opposition from local Baridars why it yielded to pressure of certain organisations managing a very few shrines in the valley. He said the Baridars of Sukhrala Mata fought pitched battles with police opposing the formation of Board without taking their aspirations into consideration but no one came forward to their support and when the Kashmiri Pandits demanded constitution of Board for the protection of their shrines in Valley maximum of whom have been either damaged during turmoil by anti social elements or allegedly encroached and sold by land mafia. The government was playing politics, he added He said the KPs will openly campaign against the coalition candidates in the elections and displaced youth putting up in different parts of country will visit nook and corner of the State to campaign against the NC as well as Congress and expose them for their double standards and disservice to the secularism. ``Our sentiments were totally hurt and we will not sit idle but teach both the parties a lesson'', said Pankaj Kumar a BE IT student. ``We will join hands with PoJK and West Pak refugees and expose both the parties who for their vested political interest played with the sentiments of people'', he added. |
