9/2/2014 12:02:51 AM
Srinagar, Sept 1: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has ridiculed the government for passing the bill related to enhancement of pension and medical allowance of former legislators of the state.
The party has appealed the Governor not to give accent to this bill as the bill according to AAP is unjustified and anti people in view of the present financial crises in the state.
According to a statement issued here AAP has criticized the decision of Government for enhancing the monthly pension of former legislators of the state from Rs 240000 to Rs 33000. AAP leader and member of National Executive Council Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat said that Government's decision to increase the pension of former MLAs’ and MLCs’ of Jammu & Kashmir is totally unjustified in view of the financial crunch in the state .
"To increase the pension of ex legislators by fleecing un employed youth , casual labourers and daily-wagers is an unjustified move of the Government and we appeal Governor of state not to give his accent to the said bill which has been passed in the assembly few days back " reads the statement
Pertinently the J&K Legislative Assembly on Saturdaycleared a Bill to enhance the pension and medical allowance of former legislators of the state . The Private Members Bill was brought by legislators Nasir Aslam Wani of NC and A R Veeri from PDP and the same was passed in the House a day after a government bill aimed at giving retrospective effect to pension hike to the former lawmakers was cleared.
The private members bill was introduced in the state legislature seeking increase in pension and medical allowance of the ex-legislators by Rs 5000 and Rs 4000 respectively. The bill which was introduced in the budget session of state legislature earlier this year in and was cleared by the J&K legislative Assembly on Saturday. The said bill seeks enhancement of pension from Rs 23000 to Rs 28000 and medical allowance from Rs 1000 to Rs 5000 and when calculated in total the former law makers would get Rs 33,000 per month as pension instead of Rs 24,000 paid to them earlier.
AAP leader Dr Muzaffar said the bill has to go to Raj Bhavan to get the Governors accent and we hope that Governor Shri N N Vohra will deny the same as this move of the Government is un justified at this crucial juncture when the state reels under severe economic crises.
He added that a delegation from his party would soon meet the Governor at Raj Bhavan Srinagar in this regard.
