Budhal College fails to introduce Science subjects for want of accommodation | | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, Sept 1 : For want of accommodation Government Degree College at Budhal couldn't introduce science subjects from current academic session, which was cleared by the higher education department. The College at Budhal was established in the year 2009 after several protests by the inhabitants of Budhal, Khawas, Kandi, Kotranka and many other villages as their wards had either to join graduation classes at Rajouri or at Jammu. Sources added that the State government had promised to provide a building to this college within 2 years of its establishment but, according to students, it took 2 years to government to identify the land for college building and three years ago the construction work was started by the PWD (R&B wing) but only one hall has been constructed that too without any roof during these three years Prof Shakeel Raina who recently joined as principal at this college informed Early Times that they have been facing acute shortage of accommodation and the matter has been taken up by him with Executive Engineer PWD and also with Director Higher Education. The college was started in three rooms at government higher secondary school building and after 5 years it is being run in the same building and in 5 rooms and the acute shortage of rooms has been creating obstacles for the students to carry on their studies smoothly. Students of the college recently held a protest against the concerned authorities and also met with Deputy Commissioner at Rajouri and requested him to ask the government to complete at earliest for which the construction work was started about three years ago. At present the college is being run in 8 rooms which and 277 students have been studying various subjects. One room is serving as principal office, one is being used as library and third room is having college office and staff room. Due to non-seriousness by the concerned officials the students of the area couldn't take admissions in Chemistry, Physics, Botany, Geography and other science subjects during current academic session. Dr Tariq , Directior Higher Education when contacted said that he was not aware of the shortage of space (rooms) for government Degree College at Budhal which is being run in government school. "I will take up the matter with the principal and Executive agency to expedite the construction work of new college building. If there is shortage of accommodation at present we will make arrangements for that and I assure that from next session the science classes will be started in this college" said Director Higher Education. Some prominent people of the area including sarpanch of Budhal said that the government is not only non-serious about the early completion of college building but it has neglected the area in every field including safe drinking water, proper power supply, good roads, proper infrastructure for governent schools etc. "The seriousness of the State government about the future of the students of this area can be gauged from the fact that the classes for science subjects couldn't be started because of inadequate infrastructure at government Budhal college" said some students.. |
