SRINAGAR, Sept 1: Despite strict directions to raze illegal fencing and concrete structures around government land at Sonwar area of the city, the authorities concerned miserably have failed to free 12 kanals official property worth crores of rupees from the clutches of influential 'encroachers'. Following orders the Revenue Department, besides directing to raze illegal structures had recommended (Kahcharai) situated at Estate Sonwar (Indira Nagar), to be used for the welfare of the general public, however when the team of officials led by Tehsildar South (Srinagar), went to the spot for action returned back embarrassed after facing wrath by a group of females there. The land measuring around 12 kanals which costs ten crore rupees as per the present market value was encroached upon by some locals at Iqbal Colony in Sonwar area, however following the complaint by local residents at Chief Ministers Grievance cell, the authorities have been asked to submit the factual report vis-à-vis the issue. Subsequently, Tehsildar South, who was appointed as Verification Officer in his report had affirmed that the land needs to be set free and used for the well-being of the general public by means of its development. The officer in-charge in its report the copy of which lies with Early Times, had said "during spot inspection the alleged encroachers have claimed that the 12 kanals land is proprietary land and rest belongs to the government.
The local inhabitants/complainants relied on the report already submitted to the Chief Ministers Grievance cell in a complaint apprising that 9 kanals and 6 marlas of government land which has been fenced illegally by the encroachers accordingly requested government may kindly protect the same which costs around 10,000,00,00 (ten crores) as per the prevailing market rate."The report further said that the land in question may be kindly used for public purpose immediately as the land is filled with dirty water which includes drainage water as well. Appropriately, the district administration had on August 8 again directed Naib Tehsildar South to remove illegal structures and walling around the Kahcharai and asked to submit compliance report on August 9. However the illegal structures and walling which had came up during these years were still intact as the team which was assigned to raze the same had been intercepted by a group of females there who had raised objections and also beat up the officials who had no other option but to halt the demolition process and flee from the scene.
Sources told Early Times that a group of females after witnessing that the official team had not carried ladies police team along with them amid anti government slogans beat up the officials forcing them to leave the spot.
