| NC being reduced to ordinary party, base getting eroded fast | | | Sandeep Bhat
JAMMU, Sept 2: Ruling National Conference (NC) which was once considered as movement has now been reduced to an ordinary party which is with each passing day losing its base and support among the masses. Gone are the days when people themselves wanted to connect with this movement under the leadership of Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah who alongwith others stalwarts like Pandit Kashyap Bandhu, Mirza Afzal Beig, Sardar Budh Singh and many others have given so much sacrifices in building this movement known as National Conference. Many big leaders have been sidelined and many have left the party. Mader-e- Meherban Begum Akbar jehan used to be the tallest figure in this party and after her demise, this party didn't able to find the women leader of that calibre. This party seems to facing dearth of women leaders and are always projecting only single face from last so many years. It seems to be that national conference doesn't believe in democracy and they always give chance to only one face again and again.
As per the party insiders and sources, there are number of women leaders in the party both from Kashmir as well as Jammu province like Vijay Laxmi Dutta, presently heading women wing, Rashida Begum, Ex-corporator Dilshada Malik, Leela Jamwal, Rita Gupta, and many others but the party seems to be interested in repeating only one face .On the conditions of anonymity, leader of the party said that he failed to understand why only one lady is being nominated in legislative assembly repeatedly.
She has been given mandate from Jammu east, thus giving a wrong signal to its voters. Some sources even suggested that the lady has earlier gone to Farooq Abdullah for getting nomination in legislative assembly first time and second time, this lady forced present chief minister to get again nominated for legislative assembly second time thus giving no chance to other deserving women leaders who are in the fray. This is happening in a party which claims to be the champion of democracy and it seems they have forgotten the role and guidance of Begum Akbar jehan who always believe in democracy and fight for women rights, but it seems only dictatorship rule. |
