DDB Srinagar meet nowhere in sight | Is Omar avoiding face-off with Qarra? | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Sept 2: Despite release of a portion of the annual plan by the central government to the state, the meeting of the District Development Board for Srinagar to finalize the plan has been put on hold by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. If the sources are to be believed, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah who is also the chairman of the DDB Srinagar has put on hold the crucial meeting of plan finalization for Srinagar district. Sources said that the meeting was first slated for August 23 but was postponed at the eleventh hour. Sources in National Conference said that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah does not want face to have a face-off with Member Parliament (MP) and PDP leader Tariq Hameed Qarra. They said that Chief Minister may authorize the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar to make allocations to avoid a face-off with Tariq Qarra. However, ridiculing these reports, NC leader and MLA Batmaloo, Irfan Ahmad Shah said that DDB meeting of Srinagar will take place soon. "Chief Minister knows his job and never hesitates in taking his detractors head-on" said Irfan Shah. He said Chief Minister has stamina to listen and capacity to speak for long hours-a quality missing in PDP leadership. "They only speak and leave, Chief Minister listens and then speaks" said Shah. Meanwhile sources in the civil secretariat said that the DDB meeting for Srinagar district may take place on 8th or 10th of this month. "Chief Minister has a tight schedule; we are working out the dates convenient for him and may be the meeting may take place on 8th or 10th of this month. Earlier the District Development Board meeting of Kupwara district was also postponed. The meeting was slated for September 4, however, it was postponed and the next date was not fixed for the meeting as yet. It merits a mention here that the DDB meetings were already late as there was delay in release of the plan by the central government. It was only earlier this month that the centre released around 700 crore as the first instalment out of the total plan of 7300 crore. Meanwhile, sources said, the centre is likely to release the second instalment of the state plan in during this week. |
