Kashmir floods: Miscreants stoning army jawans, IAF choppers in return for their good work to save them

Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 14: Miscreants in the flood-hit Kashmir have been behaving differently to what is normal under these circumstances. They have started targeting their saviours – Army, NDRF and Air Force – with stones in return for the good work the latter are doing for them. Instead of being thankful to the armed forces for having saved the lives of nearly two lakh Kashmiris so far by putting their own lives in danger, they are pelting stones on them. How ridiculous it sounds!
These miscreants appear from anywhere and, without thinking for a while that the troops were their saviours in the absence of the total failure of the state machinery to save them, start pelting stones on them. Some jawans also sustained injuries and were hospitalised. Their behaviour is very unbecoming. How can they think of doing so? Have they thought for a while what will happen to the lakhs of Kashmiris, who were still trapped in the flood waters, if army, NDRF and Air Force stop their rescue operations? They cannot be the well-wishers of these trapped people.
The stone-pelters, who were booked by police during such incidents in the past, were later rewarded with government jobs. The miscreants, who are now targeting rescue teams in the valley, may also be thinking that their work would also be “appreciated” and rewarded with government jobs. Unlike those who were given jobs in the past, they should be held and punished by the Kashmiris who feel that the central forces are doing a great job in the valley and without their help, they may not have survived.
This is not the time for anyone to think of his personal gains in the valley. This is the time for all to lend a helping hand in the ongoing rescue and relief operations. Let these stone-pelters be booked and punished under the law of the land if the right-thinking Kashmiris feel they were out of their control.
