Declare J&K disaster as natural calamity: AJKMPJ | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 14: All Jammu and Kashmir Movement for Peace and Justice (AJKMPJ) demanded the Central government to declare the recent floods in the state as "National Calamity". The members of All Jammu and Kashmir Movement for Peace and Justice in a meeting held under the leadership of Deep Singh, Dr. G.S Charak, Ram Kumar Sharma, Anil Kumar Gaind, Kuldeep Kumar Rao said that the huge amount of which the Prime Minister and the Chief Ministers of some states have released for the victims of the disaster will similarly be misappropriated and only for strengthening their votes bank, the money will go to the favourties of the politicians. They said that it has happened previously also when the real drought victims were ignored & the money was irrationally paid to the favourties without forming any proper criteria. They appeal the Centre government to keep the whole amount at the disposal of the governor & not the state government because the people have no trust on the coalition government. They said that encroachments of water bodies, un-planned urban development and failure to put in place effective flood control measures during all these years are responsible for the huge impact of the calamity. Had there been no encroachments on the wetlands and the water bodies, the impact of the flood would have been minimum, these water bodies were supposed to reduce the impact of floods. |
